Kamasi Hill, Ph.D
Kamasi Hill, Ph.D. is a dedicated educator, historian, and theologian with a career spanning 30 years of teaching high school students. He has been teaching AP courses for the past 16 years and brings deep expertise in pedagogical practice and exam preparation. He served as a valued member of the AP African American Studies development committee, which afforded him unique insight into the course framework and assessment design. Furthermore, Dr. Hill’s extensive experience as an AP Exam Reader for the annual scoring of the AP European History exam, combined with his work as a leader for Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) workshops, provides him with an unparalleled understanding of AP rubrics and the specific skills students need to master to earn top scores. He currently teaches AP African American Studies and AP European History at Evanston Township High School in Illinois.
Dr. Hill’s academic foundation includes a degree in Film Production from Howard University and a Ph.D. in Religion and Historical Studies from Northwestern University. Beyond his academic work, he is an art curator and filmmaker. His lifelong passion for history and culture, sparked by his parents who curated the Black arts in Detroit, led him to amass an extensive collection of over 300 pieces of original African and African-American art. Additionally, Dr. Hill is the creator of a series of non-fiction graphic novels designed to help students reconnect with the power of literacy and imagination.
